100%! So much of my feed is about embracing your authentic self and then the same accounts shame you for liking what you like. I saw a post yesterday insinuating that if I like PSLs, I'm not leftist. Uh, my love and nostalgia for sugary fall beverages and my opposition to genocide can coexist. Let people like what they like! We all need the scraps of joy we can find.
I also hate the subgenre of “here’s why the thing you like is actually trash” - it’s why I almost never seek out reviews of any media that I genuinely love, because I can’t bear to see people dismiss it out of hand. Which is a shame! Because it would be great to engage in some nuanced critique or maybe there IS a troubling angle I haven’t thought of.
