I have very big plans for the weekend.
First, I’m gonna read here.
Then I’m gonna get a snack and move out here.
Am I gonna read out there? Damn right.
And what about here? Well, I have a special plan for out here.
I’m going to put a book in a Ziplock bag and then I’m going to take that blue kayak out and I’m gonna paddle for a bit and then I’m going to float and read.
It might sprinkle a little bit, but don’t worry, I’ve also got big plans involving these beauties and this chair if I have to move back inside.
If I need a break from reading, I might go crazy and dangle my feet from this dock. There is a pair of loons that have nested in a grassy area in the lake and they aren’t going to watch themselves after all.
It’s a busy schedule but I feel good about getting it all done.
I was mentioning to my husband that I feel like this past spring has been the busiest of our nearly 20 years of marriage so far. A combination of a particularly intense season at work plus multiple kid school sports and club sports plus some the general increase of busyness that happens as kids hit middle school and high school has left me feeling pretty close to fried. I booked this long cabin weekend a few months ago and I really didn’t know how much I was going to need it, but when I go here on Thursday and sat on the porch watching the water… I swear I could feel my nervous system doing a hard reset.
I like being busy and productive and having a full life but this weekend is feeling like an awfully good reminder that I need some stillness sometimes too.

A shorter than usual round-up, but here are a few things I was into this week (no affiliate links or sponsored content, just stuff I love):
I don’t tend to have very strong opinions on socks, but I bought some of these Peloton socks when they were on sale and I find them so comfortable. They are 50% off this weekend, so I just ordered another three pairs.
If you are a writer looking for some community and structure this summer, come join me at Abby’s Secret Summer School!
I’m 0% interested in living in rural Nebraska but this house that was converted from a Carnegie library is pretty dreamy.
The cabin we are renting game with a stash of games so we played Pandemic for the first time and it was really fun (in sort of a stressful way). This is a cooperative game, so you win or lose together and it was interesting to see the logic that each of the kids brought to the
Hat-tip to Maddie at Pop Culture Personality for sharing this video, which is a wonderful 10 minutes of two melancholy songs I enjoy
Thrilled to get a shout-out here! And my husband and I played Pandemic back when we first started dating, pre-actual-pandemic, and I found it very fun and wildly stressful!
