It seems fitting that I started the last weekend of summer by spending the day at the Minnesota State Fair. The Fair always ends the day before my kids go back to school and it feels like the final celebration of summer, even on the days when I’m not one of the roughly 100,000+ people in attendance (The Fair set a new attendance record the day I was there with just over 225,000 people… it was crowded for sure!)
While I spent much of the day at Fair staffing my work’s booth (and answering lots of financial aid questions), I was able to get there early to check out the crop art, have a few snacks, and ride the giant slide and Sky Glider ride.
I also had a serendipitous meeting with our state’s Lt. Governor, Peggy Flanagan, who is a legit delight. I’ve had the change to meet her and work with her a few times and I think she’ll be an EXCELLENT governor when Governor Walz becomes Vice President Walz. I can’t even it hold it against her that she is younger than I am and that she looks much cooler in an orange baseball cap than I ever could.
I plan to spend the rest of the weekend doing as little as possible and preparing to spend roughly five hours braiding hair on Monday so the kids are ready to go back to school.
I’m ready… now bring on the fall temperatures, please!

A small round up of some stuff I was into this week:
I feel like this letter to Captain Awkward has to be fake but … what if it wasn’t? Can you imagine having this level of self-confidence combined with zero sense of boundaries?
Please enjoy the winners of The Bulwer-Lytton contest, which challenges writers to craft “opening sentences to the worst of all possible novels”. These are very, very bad and very funny.
I started watching Chimp Crazy this week and wow….a lot happening here. Plus, a lot of Alan Cumming, who I love.
A few amusing things:
The hot tub thing made me laugh until I cried.
Thanks for sharing the Bulwer-Lytton awards, those were so great. Enjoy back to school!
