I’ve mentioned here before that I’m working on a novel. I’m VERY good at starting novels (I have nine different novel drafts) and quite terrible at finishing them (see: nine different INCOMPLETE drafts). But the one I’m working on now feels different and this week I hit a milestone I’ve never fit on a fiction piece before: 100 pages. I know the odds that this will ever become an actual novel that someone could actually buy and read are so small and it feels sort of embarrassing sometimes to talk about trying to write a novel (who does she think she is? arrogant much?) but I’m really proud of this work-in-progress so far.
We had our first day of the fall with a high temperature below 70 degrees and I am HERE FOR IT. It’s “fake fall” of course, and it will be in the 80s again next week, but I can tell the best season of the year is coming. Yes, I realize I’m basic. I don’t care, give me allll that crisp air and the best apples of the year, please and thank you.
My son’s high school soccer season is off to a great start and, MAN, do I love watching that kid play. He didn’t get any playing time in one of the games (a thriller that featured lots of yellow cards, two red cards for the other team, and one of the most beautiful goals I’ve ever seen in a high school game), but got over 30 minutes in the second one and watching him take the field, knowing how much he wants to be there gets me every time.
I discovered that my very sweet but also very snarky 12 year old daughter has her brother (whom she loves!) saved in her phone as “Spare Kidney” and it makes me laugh more than it probably should.
Related to #3, I’ve had two hot dogs this week. What is the sorcery that makes a hot dog taste at least 50% better when it is eaten outside at a sporting event?
How about you… what was something good in your week this week?

Some things I was into this week and a few product recommendations:
These people have more money than sense. Suing Disney is almost always a bad idea but also… $125,000 a year going to DisneyLand? WHY.
From the “things I NEVER want to do” department: this camping trip
Jennifer Garner’s house is pretty dang dreamy, especially if you are a reader
Chef Reactions visits the Minnesota State Fair
I’m always on the hunt for a good detangling spray, especially for my daughter to use to do her own hair before school, on the days she’s not in braids. She really likes this Aveeno one lately because it makes her hair “so soft”.
I’m VERY into this candy. Red and clear are my favorite gummy flavors (officially they are raspberry and pineapple flavored, but let’s be honest, we all just call them “red”, right?) so this mix is PERFECT.
As a fellow writer who has multiple unfinished novel drafts languishing in their files, I feel this deeply. Keep going and congratulations on the progress so far!
Who’s going to tell the Disney dopes that they’re essentially handing their net worth over to their lawyer?
